SHORT DESCRIPTION:

The MoRUnPU project focuses on systematic research, mapping, and digital interpretation and presentation of the former Naval Hospital site, now the new campus of Juraj Dobrila University of Pula. The project takes an interdisciplinary approach, integrating historical, artistic, and technological expertise to research and develop innovative educational digital objects. Selected archival materials from the Austro-Hungarian, Yugoslav, and contemporary periods will be examined. A digital, sound, and narrative map of the site will be created, encompassing the past (archival materials), the present (scientific and artistic interpretation of existing elements), and the future (student visions). The project will also develop multimedia and interactive augmented and virtual reality (XR/VR) content, enabling comprehensive audiovisual mapping of the site. In addition, the project includes developing a methodology and conducting experimental research into users’ perception of digital objects, focusing on the impact of sound and image design, as well as the development and evaluation of innovative user interfaces for XR/VR. Expected outcomes include establishing a digital catalog, producing scientific publications, developing new research methods, encouraging interdisciplinary cooperation, strengthening local identity, applying results in education, cultural heritage, and sustainable tourism, and developing production capacities (podcast/video, post-production, and XR/VR development studio/laboratory) as a foundation for creating research infrastructure at Juraj Dobrila University of Pula.

MAIN OBJECTIVES of the project:

The main objective of this project is to document and interpret the space of the former Naval Hospital in Pula – now part of the new campus of Juraj Dobrila University in Pula – through multimedia and digital technologies, using interdisciplinary research methods. The project focuses on the following key areas:

  • Development of digital, multimedia, and interactive content, including audiovisual displays and augmented and virtual reality (XR/VR), to map, catalog, and contemporarily valorize the space as cultural and historical heritage.

  • Development of methodology and research on the impact of sound and image design on users’ perception of educational digital objects, aiming to create more effective and innovative educational content and user interfaces.

  • Development of methodology for integrating the past, present, and future of the space by creating sound, digital, and narrative maps that connect archival materials, scientific and artistic interpretations of the components of the new campus of Juraj Dobrila University in Pula, and students’ visions for its further development.

Achieving these goals will enable the creation of a modern, scientifically based, and educationally relevant framework for presenting Juraj Dobrila University of Pula as a heritage, educational, and cultural resource.

In this way, the project will not only contribute to the preservation and valorization of the former Naval Hospital space, but also strengthen the University’s role as an innovative leader in digital humanities, education, and social welfare.
